I got the Thai fried rice with chicken. It was just what I was craving and it hit the spot. I wasn't expecting much since the reviews here are pretty low. But I would come back here for sure. I got the level two spice which was just right. Sometimes I go to places and get a level two spice and it tastes like level 9.

The Seattle area is frankly lousy with Thai restaurants, but this little gem is worth a visit. THE ROSES: Good parking. Pleasant, quiet and clean dining space. Low-key, gracious and efficient service. The food was surprisingly good. Anise Thai Cuisine doesn't break any new ground in Thai food, but it stands out by doing the classic Thai dishes it offers quite well. Vegetables are perfectly crisp-tender, seasonings are on point, and the sauces are so good, you may want extra rice to sop up every bit. THE THORNS: Prices seem a titch high for what you're getting, but I ascribe that to being in one of the Seattle area's priciest neighborhoods (Mercer Island, aka 'Poverty Rock'). No Black Rice Pudding on the menu, which is my favorite Thai dessert of all time! THE VERDICT: Anise Thai Cuisine is easy to overlook, situated in a rather nondescript strip mall, but if you stop in you'll be quite pleased with their attention to culinary detail. Recommend

We came here for dinner on July 5th, so the restaurant was completely empty (I assume many people were out of town or at July 4th BBQs or something of the sort). As such, service was quick and attentive. We ordered the smoked salmon thai fried rice, vegetarian egg rolls, and pad kee mao with chicken. The vegetarian egg rolls were super crispy, and were a great appetizer! I also really enjoyed my pad kee mao, though I think the noodles might have been just a little softer/mushier than I would normally like. The salmon fried rice was also great, and I didn't feel they skimped on the salmon or anything. Overall would definitely come back since it's nearby, and super reasonably priced -- especially for thai food!

Anise Thai Cuisine is a great gem find on Mercer Island. My friends and I came here last week for dinner on a weeknight and were glad we did. The only downside about Anise is that the parking lot is VERY tight, especially during peak hours. You may be waiting a while for a spot as Anise shares parking with the rest of the strip mall tenants. Note that the entrance to the lot is off of 77th. I ordered the PAD KHEE MAO with chicken ($16). My companions ordered the PAD SEE EW with chicken, the GREEN CURRY, and the Northern Thai Ground Chicken Curry (I forget the actual name of this dish on the menu, but it's listed as one of the most popular curries in northern Thailand). Dishes were definitely reasonably priced, considering that it's Mercer Island. I thought it was strange that our waiter didn't ask us for spice levels, but I guess I could have clarified how spicy I wanted the dish. Regardless, the PAD KEE MAO was very good and came with lots of fresh veggies including bell pepper, onion, and tomato. In terms of heat, the dish was maybe a 2 star in spice level. Portions were large and they gave a very generous amount of chicken. It was definitely enough for at least a meal and a half. I'd say that their version is comparative to other Pad Khee Mao I've had at other Thai restaurants on the Eastside, but I'll have to ask for more spice next time. My friends enjoyed their dishes as well with no complaints. One of my friends said the curry had more heat than she was expecting though, so perhaps the curry dishes are more like a 3 star in spice level. Service was good. Our waiter was attentive and we received our orders within 15 minutes after ordering. In terms of atmosphere, Anise is warm and cozy. It's also both casual and trendy, making it perfect for getting together with friends. Bathrooms are clean. Overall: 4/5 for food, 4/5 for service, 4/5 for atmosphere.

My friends and I finished playing sports and we were super hungry and tired and wanted to look for a good place to eat nearby Mercer Island. When we got there, it was near closing and empty, but the waiter still let us dine in despite being originally reluctant. I got the Chicken Phad See Ew which was very flavorful and relatively spicy, but could be spicier for max spice. My friends got Chicken Phad See Ew which I had a taste of and it was also very yummy, it was sweet and a little sour, and the noodles were soft and easy to eat. The waiter was extremely helpful and friendly despite it being close to closing, which I highly respect. My group and I recommend this place if you're in the area!
